NZVIF is a New Zealand-based private equity fund of funds investor that manages fund of funds investments as well as direct co-investments.
NZVIF was established by the New Zealand government in 2002, to help build a vibrant venture capital market in New Zealand. We are based in Auckland and governed by a private sector board of directors who provide oversight to our investment management team.
Current Funds
NZVIF currently has $200 million of funds under management. It is invested through two vehicles:
- the $160 million Venture Capital Fund of Funds
- the $40 million Seed Co-investment Fund
How We Operate
All our investments are made either through privately managed venture capital funds, or alongside experienced angel investors who are investing into New Zealand-originated, high-growth potential companies.
We conduct extensive due diligence on all our prospective fund managers and co-investment partners before making an investment commitment. We only invest with those fund managers and co-investors which we have assessed as having the strong potential for investment success.
NZVIF’s approach is to invest in line with industry standard terms. Post investment, we take an active role in monitoring fund activity and tracking investment performance.
Market Development
As a New Zealand government supported fund manager, NZVIF also plays an active role in market development, alongside the local venture capital industry alongside the New Zealand Venture Capital Association and the Angel Association New Zealand.
